sea sickness cures

Postby paulo » Wed Mar 19, 2008 3:32 pm

just wondering what people susceptable to sea sickness take to releive their agony? i have tried stugeron, stemetil, those accupressure wrist bands and ginger. often used all of the above at once and still get sick. i even start taking the tablets 2 days before going afloat to get a level of the drugs in my system

invested too much money in the sport to pack it in now.

guess i will have to just keep adding to the rubby with every session. the lads recon that the fishing is always better 10 mins after i have made a donation to the sea..... im yet to be convinced

Plenty of fizzy drinks and a decent breakfast should help Paul, and no alcohol the nite before.
Its nice to be important , but its more important to be nice.

I am usually fine on the boat, however I will get sea sick if I have to focus down into the boat for any more than a few minutes, for example when having to un-tangle rigs. In order to get around this every few seconds I make sure I look up and look at the horizon, this works for me.

not much works, some folks swear by ginger nuts and strong tea, other say dry bread, some keep eyes on horizon and try not to hae the head down for too long, but in your case paul chuck up and your grand

ps the fishing is better after you do some ground baiting

what i do find is that eating little amounts of food often seems to work. i dont drink before going on a boat. fizzy drinks are also a no no. find that it fizzes up in my stomach and makes me sick

Here's a few tips for you Paul,

Tea or coffee can be worse than fizzy drinks.... Like Mart said water is the best, if you suffer a lot bring a packet of cream crackers. Eat the crackers dry you will find that a lot of the time you will keep them down, but if not they will stop you empty reaching. They are also easy to eat when not feeling the best

Also bring a large bottle of Coke for the same purpose as the crackers but before you drink it shake the sh1te out of it and get rid of all the gas. Flat Coke is excellent for settling a sick stomach after your throw up or and to stop empty reaching

Most important of all is to try hard not to think about being sick by staying busy fishing, stay out of the wheel house if you feel queasy, don't concentrate too much on anything like reading (even a text msg) or a tangle. I know when most "casualties" are about to throw up, the first symptom is they tend to go quiet and stare at something usually just a spot on the deck or their shoes and in no time they're off so if you find yourself staring at nothing busy yourself by checking your bait or changing tactics etc. Think about winning the lotto instead of getting sick

Always throw up over the side, going into the heads will only make you worse. If you are feeling really rough lay down on the deck / engine box etc for 10-15 minutes looking to the sky, that helps some people.

howya
was watching mythbusters and their findings was that raw ginger root
worked best against a dose of aqua sputum
or you can do what i suggest to my mates
a spoonful of jam, that way it wont taste as bad on the way back up.
they blow chunks and a few mins later they are grand
