Looking forward to reporting on how much this will cost, not!

I know any time i take her to get a service its £40 an hour labour then parts after that, what really winds me up though is the length of time they keep the boat , a service can be done in a couple of hours but the boat is gone for a week FFS  She's due another service in 20 hours time and im dreading it!!

£40 labour plus Vat, the boat cost me £190 to service and an additional £240 to replace the seal and clean the carbs. It sat in McAleese's yard from mid dec until yesterday to wait from a some guy from Mercury to take a look at it as she was chocking herself and all he done was tune the carbs

Teh guy from Mercury also advised that the following would help "the engine could do with new fuel pump diaphragm, carb repair kits which include new jets and a new filter which would all help the running of the engine"

Anyone know who the best person is to get this done......

Robbie

Take it to Martin Stitt he is the best for Mercury he has been a Mercury dealer for the last 30 years and I would say he was the guy from Mercury that looked at your engine.

So are you heading out tomorrow now you have got it back.

Robbie, the best person is yourself! Get yourself the service manual (you may even be able to download it if you do a search). It will explain fully how to do all these jobs and you will learn a lot about your engine in the process. Two strokes aren't that complicated and are pretty straightforward. Will save you a lot in labour costs and you will know exactly what has been done.

Just out on the lake as I want to trial her first, haven't that much confidence in them.

What model is your outboard Robbie - I might already have the service manual. Of the jobs suggested

new fuel pump diaphragm - simple and should be cheap (ish)

carb repair kits which include new jets - new jets not cheap

and a new filter which would all help the running of the engine - cheap and easy

Run the engine and see how you get on with it, calll me sceptical but I would be dubious about "the advisory"

I'm dubious about the whole lot, cleaned the boat today only to find the electrics aren't working. First time I left a boat in for a simple service only to be charged a fooking fortune and end up with more problems than I started with. I will crack if she doesn't go well tomorrow..........
